Tony Blair and the Hungarian PM Ferenc Gyurcsany have visited a display in the House of Commons which commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the 1956 uprising.
The uprising was a spontaneous nationwide revolt in Hungary against the Communist dictatorship.
Mr Blair said the action of those who took part fifty years ago showed why you couldn’t "suppress the human desire to live in liberty".
He went on:
"It was an extraordinary act of bravery for people to come out and make a stand in the way that they did."
