Tony Blair held talks in Number 10 with Sudan’s General Salva Kiir Mayardit to discuss the conflict in Darfur.
The PM’s official spokesman said Mr Blair had repeated his call for Sudan to impose a ceasefire, engage in a political dialogue and accept a UN peacekeeping force.
Last month, the PM said that Darfur represents one of the greatest challenges the international community faces.
There has long been unrest in Darfur in Western Sudan.
The conflict, which began in 2003, has caused the displacement of two million people - one third of the population - and left over 3.5 million in need of humanitarian assistance.
