Tony Blair has spoken of his passion for science ahead of a major lecture he’s due to deliver on Friday.
Science is vital to Britain’s future and "almost as important as economic stability", he said, as well as being "at the cutting-edge of the knowledge economy".
The PM’s comments came during an interview with New Scientist magazine, which you can listen to as a podcast on our website.
During the wide-ranging Q and A, the PM gave his views on subjects including MMR jabs, GM foods and climate change.
Mr Blair admitted that he found science tricky at school, adding:
"I don’t pretend any scientific knowledge but I do I think I understand its importance to Britain’s future."
During the PM’s lecture on Friday, the fourth in the Our Nation’s Future series, he’ll be exploring all aspects of Britain’s scientific future.
