Notes for Editors
The Tate Gallery holds the nation’s collections of British art from 1500 to the present day, and of international modern art. The Tate’s mission, laid down by the 1992 Museums and Galleries Act, is to increase public knowledge, understanding and appreciation of art. Its responsibilities are to safeguard and enhance its assets, which are the collections, expertise in the collections and their subject area, and the buildings. The Gallery seeks to spread the benefits of those assets by maximising access, developing value for visitors, satisfying stakeholders, and through effective organisation and sound financial management. Trustees of the Tate are not remunerated.
