The overall winner of the My UK competition was Janet Peet, aged 11, from Vyners School in Hillingdon, Middlesex. The runners up were Conor McPartland, aged eight from Liverpool, and Robbie Russo aged seven from Watford, and all three were invited to the reception. The overall winner, Janet Peet, attended the reception with her whole class.

The competition asked children from across the country to submit storyboards or scripts to Blue Peter about what it means to them to be growing up in the UK, The winners were picked from thousands of entries by Blue Peter Editor Richard Marson, Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq along with Childrens Minister, Beverley Hughes. They selected one winner from each age category.

Janet Peet who has had her film made by Blue Peter, saw it premiered in front of her classmates and the Prime Minister in No 10. It will be broadcast on Blue Peter and the No10 Young People’s web site in January.

Prime Minister Tony Blair said:

"All three ideas from Janet, Conor and Robbie were really original and very creative. I was very pleased to invite them, and all of Janet’s class, to Number Ten this afternoon. I would like to thank the thousands of young people that took part in this competition from all over the UK, as a tremendous amount of work has gone into every single entry."

Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq said:

"Blue Peter has a long tradition of "money can’t buy" prizes and the chance to make a film on the theme of My UK and to premier that film in front of the Prime Minister was one of the best I can remember.

"We had thousands of entries and the standard made it really hard to judge. We think we found a fantastic winner and you can make your own mind up by watching the film on Blue Peter or on the Downing Street website."

The site provides a great opportunity for children to interact and engage with the Prime Minister and his office in a wide range of activities, including online quizzes.

There were three age groups for the competition: Under 7, 8-10s and over 11s.
