As Christmas approached, Tony Blair met DJ Chris Evans for a festive chat about life as Prime Minister.
Chris, who hosts BBC Radio 2’s drivetime programme, began by asking the PM if he ever gets time off at Christmas.
Mr Blair replied that he hoped to be "more off work than people think sometimes", but added:
"… it is always coming at you, there is always something, it is very relentless, there is always something that is going to happen or a phone call that has to be made."
Asked what lessons he has learnt about the job of PM, Mr Blair said the important this is to "know what it is you really want to achieve and focus on that the whole time and don’t get side-tracked".
He added:
"To be in the position where you actually are the Prime Minister is a fantastic thing to have happened in your life and you should never feel anything other than an acute sense of privilege in doing it."
