An exchange of letters between the PM and President Bush on America’s continuing involvement in Britain’s nuclear deterrent have been published.
The letters give assurances of the "continued and future co-operation" of the US Government in the operation of the planned replacement for Trident.
In a written ministerial statement, Mr Blair said that future governments would be able to retain an "operationally independent nuclear deterrent capability" throughout the life of the replacement class of submarines.
