Joint statement between the Governments of the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom

We, the Governments of the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, share a long and unique history. This shared history continues to inform both where we are today and where we can go tomorrow.

We also enjoy a deep and enduring partnership built on lasting friendship, trust and mutual respect. This friendship and respect continue to underpin our close cooperation, including in business, investment, security and defence, health, education, training and cooperation in international bodies on matters of common concern.

We welcome today’s signature of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the London School of Economics and the Emirates Foundation. This agreement will have an important role in continuing to develop both academic excellence and mutual exchange and understanding between our young people.

We emphasise that the achievement of a fair and comprehensive peace in the Middle East requires the commitment of all parties to abide by all relevant United Nations resolutions, and the Road Map, based on the principle of land for peace.

We pledge our continuing commitment to the objective of building a peaceful, secure and prosperous Middle East through ongoing dialogue and co-operation. We also reaffirm our belief in exerting effort for a fair, just, comprehensive and permanent settlement of regional conflicts.

Central to this vision is seeing progress on the Middle East Peace Process, This is vital, above all for the Israeli and Palestinian people, but also for the stability and prosperity of the region.

We shall continue our efforts to marginalise the phenomena of extremism, violence and international terrorism through our two countries’ commitment to continued bilateral and international cooperation. We will continue working together to promote peace, tolerance and good neighbourliness and to fulfil the goal of economic, social, educational and cultural development and build a brighter more stable, secure and prosperous future for all the people of the region.
