Privy Council Appointment of Alexander Salmond

The Queen has been pleased to approve that Alexander Elliot Anderson (Alex) Salmond MP MSP, be sworn of Her Majesty’s most honourable Privy Council following his appointment as First Minister of Scotland.

Alex Salmond has been MP for Banff and Buchan since 1987 and Leader, Scottish National Party, 1999-2000 and since 2004. He has been a Member of the National Executive, Scottish National Party since 1981; Vice Chair (Publicity), 1985-87; Senior Vice-Convenor (Deputy Leader) (formerly Senior Vice-Chair), 1987-90. SNP parly spokesperson on energy, treasury and fishing, 1987-88, on economy, energy, environmental and poll tax, 1988-97, on constitution and fishing, 1997-2005. Member (SNP) Banff & Buchan, Scottish Parliament, 1999-2001; Leader of the Opposition, 1999-2000. He was elected MSP for Gordon at the recent Scottish Parliamentary election.
