The Queen has been pleased to approve that the Honourable Lady (Ann) Paton, a Scottish judge of the Inner House of the Court of Session be sworn of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

The proposal to appoint Scottish judges of the Inner House of the Court of Session to the Privy Council is in accordance with the established procedure in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by which judges automatically become Privy Counsellors when appointed Lord Justices of the Court of Appeal.
Ann Paton:
Educated at Laurel Bank School and University of Glasgow. Admitted to the Scottish Bar, 1977. QC (Scot) 1990; Advocate Depute, 1992-94. Member: Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, 1995-2000; Parole Board since 2003. Director, Scottish Council of Law Reporting, 1995-2000. Member, Governing Body, Queen Margaret UC, 2001-2004.
