Paul Ruddock appointed to the Victoria and Albert Museum

The Prime Minister has appointed Mr Paul Ruddock as Chairman of the Victoria and Albert Museum with effect from 1 November 2007 for a period of four years in succession to Ms Paula Ridley.

Biographical Details

Mr Paul Ruddock has over 27 years experience in global financial markets. He is co-founder and Chief Executive of Lansdowne Partners Ltd, an investment management firm which has won numerous business awards. He was previously Managing Director and Head of International at Schroder & Co Inc, and has also worked in investment equities at Goldman Sachs. Mr Ruddock has been a Trustee of the Victoria & Albert Museum for the past five years. During this time, he has been Chair of the Finance Committee and the Development Committee, and has sat on the Collections Committee, the Trustee Appointments Working Group and Senior Staff Remuneration Committee. He has helped bring in significant capital sums for Museum projects including the British Galleries, the Sculpture Galleries and the Jewellery Galleries.

The Victoria and Albert Museum is the UK’s National Museum of Art and Design and the greatest museum of art and design in the world. It comprises the V&A in South Kensington, the V&A Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, and archives and study collections at Blythe House in Olympia. The post is not remunerated. Reasonable expenses can be claimed.

The appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. Appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. Mr Ruddock has made recordable donations to the Conservative party during the last five years.

As a result of a conflict of interest, Sir John Tusa decided not to take up the position of Chairman at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Mr Ruddock will take up the position instead.
