Nick Brown has been an MP since 1983, he is the Minister for the North East and Government Deputy Chief Whip. A former trade union official with the Northern Region GMB, he has formally served in Government as Government Chief Whip, Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Work. He was awarded the Freedom of the City of Newcastle in 2001.

The Government Office for the North East works with organisations across the Region to deliver, influence and develop government programmes and initiatives at a regional and local level, by working in partnership with relevant organisations to meet local needs.
