Flying from London, Prime Minister Attlee arrives in Washington, where he receives a hearty welcome from Secretary of State Byrnes and American and British officials. During his stay, the British prime minister will discuss the atomic-bomb situation and other matters concerning world security with President Truman and Canada’s Mackenzie King. Arriving at the White House, Mr Attlee is warmly greeted. Britain’s ambassador, Lord Halifax, is in the welcoming group. At an Armistice Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, President Truman and Prime Ministers Attlee and King honour the nation’s heroic dead. It’s a solemn occasion, coming so soon after the war’s end. Mr Attlee places a wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier as a token from our British comrades in arms. Prime Minister King represents Canada at the ceremony on this first peacetime Armistice Day in four years. In remembrance of those who died to make victory possible.
