We received a petition asking:
"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to retain the Monarchy and to fully utilize its role in strengthening and enhancing the United Kingdom and our shared sense of a British national identity."
Details of petition:
"The Monarchy is the central focus of the United Kingdom’s shared sense of national unity and national identity. It is the centrepiece of colourful ceremonial which is respected and renowned around the world. Monarchy also provides an impartial Head of State and gives valued non-political support to a number of different causes and charities - often raising millions of pounds in the process. The Royal Family is a part of our national life. We urge the PM to fully utilize its role in the United Kingdom. "

The United Kingdom has a constitutional monarchy. The appropriateness of this constitutional institution is not in question and the Government is not proposing to change the role of the Monarchy which has served the UK well for many years.
As Head of State, The Queen undertakes constitutional and representational duties. In addition to these State duties, The Queen acts as a focus for national identity, unity and pride; gives a sense of stability and continuity; officially recognises success and excellence; and supports the ideal of public and voluntary service. In all these roles The Queen is supported by members of her immediate family.
The Government supports the Monarchy and the continuation of the Crown.
