Nell McAndrew:
Hi, I’m Nell McAndrew here at Downing Street as a judge for the LifeSaver Awards, and it’s just such a privilege to be here with the winners, the worthy winners. It just shows that there are so many brave people in this country doing extraordinary things.
Gordon Brown:
I wanted to say what a privilege it is for Sarah and me to have you here in Downing Street this morning to celebrate your bravery, to celebrate the award itself, to thank the Royal Humane Society, Vodafone, all the sponsors of this award, but particularly to thank all of you, who come from all over the country, so that we can recognise your great achievements. Churchill, who was a prime minister who lived here, said on one occasion that courage is the greatest human quality of all, because without courage nothing that is great can happen. And it’s your courage and bravery as lifesavers that we’re celebrating today, and I’m immensely privileged to be able to thank you personally but also to say on behalf of the country that we’re intensely proud of everything that you’ve achieved.
Tania Bryer:
Hello. My name is Tania Bryer, and I’m privileged and honoured to be a judge for the LifeSavers 2007 Awards. Well, we’re here at Downing Street, and our ten finalists have been all meeting the prime minister and they’ve had an incredible time, and I feel very humbled and very honoured to be in their presence, and it’s wonderful, inspirational stories just before Christmas.
Martin Kemp:
My name’s Martin Kemp and I’m here today with the lifesavers. I’ve been a judge on this for about three or four years, and every year I do it and you read through about 20 different stories, you’re just astonished at people’s bravery. And I’m always, selfishly, looking to see if there’s a film in there somewhere, to see if I can get a script made, but every one is worth its own film, and it’s been a great day today.
Gordon Brown:
I hope that all of you enjoy the Christmas celebrations, but before you have them, it’s been a great pleasure to have you here, and I hope you’ll be able to go back and say to your friends and to your communities that what you achieved by the great acts of bravery and courage, which demanded a huge amount of service and dedication, is respected and celebrated in the whole of the country. It’s what makes Britain the country that it is, that we have so many brave and courageous people. Thank you to the judges. Thank you to all who organised this great competition, LifeSavers, but thank you most of all to all of you who’ve come to be with Sarah and me today so that I can thank you on behalf of the country. Thank for everything you’ve achieved.
