The Queen has been pleased to appoint Dr Peter Beck DL as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for South Glamorgan upon the retirement of Captain Sir Norman Lloyd-Edwards KCVO RNR on 13 June 2008.
Biographical Notes
Dr Peter Beck M.A., MD., F.R.C.P. worked for most of his adult life in the Cardiff Teaching Hospitals, eventually retiring in 2003 as Senior Consultant Physician having been Chairman of the Society of Physicians in Wales and President of the Cardiff Medical Society. He has written a large number of medical papers and been an examiner for three universities and four boards. He was an elected member of the Council of the Royal College of Physicians, Regional Adviser for South Wales and Honorary Secretary of three college committees. Dr Beck was a Surgeon Commander in the Royal Naval Reserve and previously was Vice Chairman of the George Thomas Hospice Trust and a member of the Wales committee of the Army Benevolent Fund. He is currently Chairman of the Royal British Legion Wales Festival of Remembrance, President of the St. John Council for Cardiff, has been a steward of Llandaff Cathedral for twelve years and a Deputy Lieutenant for fourteen years.
Born in 1941, Dr. Beck is married to Lyn, a retired Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. They have two grown-up children.
