Lord-Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire

The Queen has been pleased to appoint The Hon. Mrs Bayliss DL JP as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire upon the retirement of Sir Philip Wroughton KCVO on 19 April.

Biographical Notes

Mary Bayliss is a Justice of the Peace, and the daughter of a former Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire. She is a former Chairman of the Reading Bench, and was High Sheriff of Berkshire in 2005/6. She served on the Reading Minster Appeal Committee, is a Trustee of the Berkshire Community Foundation, a Patron of Reading Mencap, and President of the Swallowfield Horticultural Society. Mrs. Bayliss was a member of the Court of Reading University and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in 2007.

Born in 1940, Mrs. Bayliss is married to Jeremy Bayliss, a former President of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and a former Chief Executive of the Foundation, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. They have three grown up sons. Mrs. Bayliss’ interests include gardening and music.
