The Queen has been pleased to appoint Sir David Brewer Kt CMG as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Greater London upon the retirement of The Lord Imbert on 27 April 2008.
Biographical Notes
Sir David Brewer Kt CMG was Lord Mayor of the City of London for 2005 to 2006. He is currently Chairman of the China-Britain Business Council and Vice Chairman of the Great Britain-China Centre. His career was in the insurance industry with Sedgwick, now Marsh, for whom he is now non-executive Vice-Chairman. He has lived and worked in Japan and China. Sir David is Alderman for Bassishaw Ward in the City of London but will be standing down from that post at the end of next year. He is a past Master of the Merchant Taylors’ Company, a Warden of the Blacksmiths’ Company and a JP. He set up the City of London Bursary Fund to help higher education students in Cornwall; he is also a member of the Advisory Council of the LSO, a Governor of the Corporation of Sons of the Clergy, a Governor of the School of Oriental and African Studies, and is involved in many other charities and educational organisations.
Sir David was knighted in 2007 for services to the City of London. He is married to Tessa and they have two grown-up daughters. His interests include music, golf, chocolate and paronomasia.
