The Prime Minister has re-appointed Mark Getty as a Trustee of the National Gallery until 10 August 2011.
Mark Getty has been selected by the Trustees of the National Gallery to serve as Chairman , for a period of 3 years , from 11 August 2008 when the present Chairman, Peter Scott, ceases to be a member of the Board, after 9 years in office.
Biographical Details
Mark Getty is co-founder and chairman of Getty Images, Inc. Prior to this, he worked with Kidder Peabody in New York and then joined Hambros Bank Ltd in London in 1991. He serves on the board of directors of several companies.
Notes to Editors
The National Gallery houses one of the greatest collections of European painting in the world. It contains paintings from the 13th to the early 20th centuries, representing all the major European schools of painting with examples of all the major artists’ work. These pictures belong to the public and entrance to see them is free. Its trustees are not remunerated.
Appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for political activity in the past 5 years (if any declared) to be made public. Mr Getty has declared no political activity.
