Mr Brown said the Government would turn its attention to tackling the rising cost of fuel and food and its impact on family finances.

Questions from journalists covered the 42 days pre-charge detention, relations with OPEC and polyclinics.

About the press conferences

The Prime Minister’s regular press conference session, broadcast live from inside Number 10, usually lasts an hour and Mr Brown has no prior notification of the questions.
