Dan Clayton Jones reappointed to the National Heritage Memorial Fund

The Prime Minister has reappointed Dan Clayton Jones as Deputy Chair and Welsh Trustee of the National Heritage Memorial Fund. His second term of appointment will run from 12 July 2008 to 11 July 2011.

Biographical notes

Dan Clayton Jones is Chair of Cord Investments (Cardiff) Ltd, and is a Director of JJ&F Property Holdings Ltd. He began his career in marketing with Ford of Europe as PA to the Vice-President of Marketing, based in Brussels. Subsequently, he held senior marketing appointments with the Wales Tourist Board (Marketing Manager) and the Rank Organisation (Marketing Director Leisure Division). A life-long supporter of Heritage in Wales, he was Secretary of the Historic Houses Association in Wales for 12 years and is a founding Life Member of the Historic Gardens Trust. He has been the Vice-Chairman of the National Trust in Wales and was the first Chairman of the National Botanic Garden of Wales. He was elected as a community councillor for the Welsh Labour Party in 2004.

The National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) was set up as a memorial to those who gave their lives for the United Kingdom. The Fund is a resource of last resort which makes grants to acquire,
maintain and preserve heritage of outstanding national importance and interest, which is either at risk, or memorial in character.

NHMF Trustees administer the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) one of the National Lottery ‘good causes’. The Heritage Lottery Fund’s aims are to i) encourage more people to be involved in and make decisions about their heritage, ii) conserve and enhance the UK’s diverse heritage, iii) ensure that everyone can learn about and access their heritage, and iv) achieve a more equitable distribution of grants across the UK. The NHMF Deputy Chair may claim an allowance of £19,847 per year.

This reappointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. Appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.
