Lord-Lieutenant for County Antrim

The Queen has been pleased to appoint Mrs Joan Christie as Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for the County of Antrim upon the retirement of The Right Honourable the Lord O'Neill TD JP on 1st September 2008.
Biographical Notes
Mrs Joan Christie OBE DL is company secretary and a director of the family business in Coleraine and is active in many public and voluntary bodies. She is a former civil servant and was Assistant Private Secretary to successive Secretaries of State for Northern Ireland until 1979. She has a keen interest in the education sector and is a Commissioner for the South Eastern Education and Library Board having served as Chairman of the North Eastern Education and Library Board. She is a former member of the Senate of Queen's University and is currently serving on the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools.
In her voluntary work she is a Northern Ireland Council Member for Macmillan Cancer Support and a former County Commissioner for the Guide Association. She is also committed to the work of her local District Policing Partnership.
In 2004 she was awarded an OBE for her services to education and in 2005 was made a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Antrim.
Born in 1944, Mrs Christie is married with three grown-up children.
