Trefor Owen appointed to the Forestry Commission

The Queen has approved the appointment of Trefor Owen as a Commissioner of the Forestry Commission from 17 March 2008.
Biographical Notes
Trefor Owen, 44, has been the Forestry Commission's Director Wales - initially on an acting basis following the death of his predecessor, Ian Forshaw - since September 2007. He joined the Forestry Commission after graduating in Agriculture-Forestry from Bangor University in 1985, and has held forest management and leadership posts in Scotland and Wales, most recently as the head of estates management for Forestry Commission Wales. He is a fluent Welsh speaker from a farming background on Anglesey.

The Forestry Commissioners are appointed by Royal Warrant under the Forestry Act 1967. Their functions include promoting the interests of forestry, regulating tree felling, grant aiding the establishment and management of woodland, undertaking research, and managing public forest land in England, Wales and Scotland. Forestry Commission Wales serves as the Welsh Assembly Government's forestry department.
