The Prime Minister announced today that Mr Rupert Hambro has been re-appointed as a Governor of the Museum of London with effect from 7 April 2001 for a further period of five years.
Biographical Notes
Mr Hambro (57) was first appointed to the Board of the Museum of London in April 1998 (becoming its Chairman later that year) and has served one term. He has been Chairman of J O Hambro since 1986 and was previously Chairman of Hambros Banks Ltd. He is also the Chairman of the Mayflower Corporation Plc and The Roland Berger Partnership, and is on the board of the Daily Telegraph Ltd. and Peel Hunt Plc. He is Treasurer of the National Art Collections Fund; Chairman, The Society of Merchants Trading to the Continent; Chairman of Trustees of The Silver Trust; Deputy President of The National Association of Clubs for Young People and a Vice Patron of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. He is also Chairman of the Walpole, the organisation that spearheads British Excellence, and is a Treasurer of the Conservative Party. He is married with two children and lives in London. His interests include walking, Tuscany and shooting.
