The Queen has approved that Professor David Trotter be appointed Professor of English Literature, University of Cambridge, in succession to Professor Dame Gillian Beer DBE FBA who retires on 1st October 2002.

Professor David Trotter (49) has been Quain Professor of English Language and Literature, University College London, since 1991. Professor Trotter’s published works range over the last three centuries, and explore not only English but American and Irish literature also. He has particular interests in relations between writing and the visual arts, and between teaching and research. He has also been closely involved in administration during his time at UCL.
