Briefing from the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman on: Alan Milburn Resignation.
Alan Milburn Resignation
The Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman (PMOS) confirmed that there would be a reshuffle later today, but advised journalists that the details would not become apparent until later in the afternoon, with one exception. On Monday the Health Secretary Alan Milburn informed the Prime Minister that he wanted to leave the government because he had found it increasingly difficult to balance having a young family in the NorthEast with the demands of being a Cabinet minister. The PMOS told journalists that they could pick up copies of the exchange of letters after the briefing but made it clear that people should take the letters at face value. The reasons that Mr. Milburn gave were contained in his letter and there were no other reasons why he had decided to leave the Government. Asked who would replace Mr. Milburn the PMOS reminded journalists that further announcements would be made later that day.
