Office of the Leader of the House of Commons

Parliament at sunsetThe Office of the Leader of the House of Commons has two Ministers - The Leader of the House of Commons and the Deputy Leader. Both Ministers and their staff are located within the Privy Council Office.

The Leader of the House of Commons is responsible for the effective management of the business of the House, in particular the smooth progress of the Government’s legislative programme.

Here is a list of ministers who work for the Department.

Harriet Harman is also Lead Cabinet Minister for Women and Labour Party Chair.

Responsibilities:

  • The Government’s Legislative Programme
  • Managing the Business of the House
  • Government’s Representative in the House (House of Commons Commission)
  • The House’s Representative in Government
  • Modernisation of the House of Commons
  • MPs/MEPs Pay, Allowances and Pensions
  • Chair of Board of Trustees for Chevening Estate

She is also responsible for the Equalities Office at Cabinet Level.

Helen GoodmanHelen Goodman MP

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Leader in handling Government’s business in the House
  • Monitoring the legislative programme
  • Ministerial Committee on the Law Commission
  • Minister with responsibility for Correspondence, FOI and Green Issues
