Asked if the Prime Minister had any reaction to the ‘impending coronation of Michael Howard’, the PMOS said that the Prime Minister was due to be interviewed on The Jeremy Vine Show on Radio 2 shortly. No doubt he could be asked about the issue.In answer to further questions, the PMOS said that as a Civil Servant, he was unable to comment on political matters. Questioned as to whether the issue had been discussed at Cabinet this morning, the PMOS said no, apart from some wry comments and the odd aside. There had been a broad agreement that it would be useful to have a political session of Cabinet at a future date when the Opposition’s leadership processes had been completed.
