The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon James HaroldBell, MA, Honorary Canon of Ripon Cathedral and Diocesan Director of Mission, to the Suffragan See of Knaresborough in the Diocese of Ripon andLeeds in succession to the late Right Reverend Frank Valentine Weston MA.

Canon James Bell (aged 53) was educated at St John’s College Durham where he took a BA in 1972. He trained for ordination at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford and took a BA through St Peter’s College, Oxford, and an MA in 1978. From 1975 to 1976 he was Honorary Curate at St Michael with St Martin All Saints, Oxford. From 1976 to 1982 he was Chaplain and Lecturer at Brasenose College, Oxford. From 1982 to 1993 he was Rector at Northolt St Mary, London and from 1993 to 1997 was Adviser for Ministry, Willesden.
From 1997 to 1999 Canon Bell was Diocesan Director of Ministry and Training and then Director of Mission from 1999 in the Ripon and Leeds Diocese.
