The Queen has approved that the Right Honourable the Lord Steel of Aikwood KBE PC DL be re-appointed Lord High Commissioner to the 2004 General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

As David Steel, he was Member of Parliament in the Scottish Borders from 1965 to 1997, and he was a Member of the Scottish Parliament 1999 -2003. Lord Steel of Aikwood stepped down as the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament after the dissolution on 31 March 2003.
