The Government published the full report of the Independent Review of Government Communications today.
The Review, chaired by Bob Phillis, builds on an interim report published in the summer. Today’s report makes several recommendations such as the televising of lobby briefings and better use of websites.
A new Permanent Secretary Government Communications will take forward recommendations on a redefinition of the overall role of government communications, its structure and the training and development of all communications specialists.
The government agrees with the recommendation that more Ministers should host lobby briefings and that these should be open and televised. The Government will now discuss the proposals with the relevant public authorities, including Parliament and the Parliamentary Lobby.
