Lord-Lieutenant for Norfolk

The Queen has been pleased to approve that Richard Jewson Esq DL be appointed Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Norfolk in succession to Sir Timothy Colman KG who will be retiring on 19 September this year.

Mr Jewson (aged 59) has been Deputy Lieutenant for Norfolk since 2000 and was High Sheriff in 2000/2001.

Mr Jewson was brought up and lives in Norfolk, and was educated at Rugby School and Pembroke College, Cambridge. He first worked in the timber and building material supply industry, becoming Managing Director of Jewson, and then Chairman of its parent company Meyer International plc from which he retired in 1993. He is currently Chairman of Savills plc, Archant Ltd, Octagon Healthcare Ltd and Deputy Chairman of Anglian Water Services Ltd and a non-executive director of other quoted and unquoted companies. He serves as Pro-Chancellor of the University of East Anglia, Chairman of East Port Great Yarmouth and Chairman of the East Anglia Art Foundation Executive Committee. He is a Governor of Taverham Hall School.

Richard Jewson is married to Sarah and they have four grown-up children.

His interests include golf, three day eventing, sailing, tennis, the visual arts and opera.
