Suffragan See of Crediton

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Venerable Robert John Scott Evens, ACIB, DipTh, Archdeacon of Bath and Prebendary of Wells Cathedral in succession to the Right Reverend Richard Stephen Hawkins, MA, BPhil, on his resignation on 21 August 2004.

Notes for Editors

Archdeacon Evens (aged 57) before ordination worked for National Westminster Bank for ten years and then trained for the ordained ministry in 1974 at Trinity College, Bristol. From 1977 to 1979 he was a Curate at Saint Simon's Southsea, Portsmouth, and from 1979 to 1983 he was Curate at Saint Mary's Portchester. From 1983 to 1996 he was Vicar at St John's Lock Heath, Portsmouth. From 1993 to 1996 he was Rural Dean at Fareham. Since 1996 he has been Archdeacon of Bath and Prebendary Wells Cathedral.

Robert Evens is married to Sue and they have one son and one daughter. His interests include, sailing, caravanning, gardening and walking.
