The Prime Minister has appointed Baroness Helena Kennedy to the Board of the British Museum with effect from 1 October 2004 for a period of four years.

Biographical Notes

Baroness Kennedy has been a prominent barrister since 1972 who specialises in criminal law (acted in the Brighton Bombing Trial, Guilford 4 appeal, and many other high profile cases.) She is a bencher of Gray's Inn. She was appointed a QC in 1991 and made a Life Peer in 1997. She is a broadcaster and author on the law and women's rights. Baroness Kennedy is currently chair of the Human Genetics Commission and President of the School of Oriental and African Studies. In August 2004 she completed a 6 year term as chair of the British Council.
