New Trustees appointed to the National Maritime Museum

The Prime Minister has today appointed David Moorhouse and Dr David Quarmby CBE as Trustees of the National Maritime Museum. The terms of appointment will be for four years.

Biographical Note

David Moorhouse

David Moorhouse is Executive Chairman of Lloyd’s Register and Vice-Chairman of Maritime London. He is a former Chairman and Chief Executive of the Process Division of the Kvaerner Group, a Norwegian industrial holding company. He is also a former Board Member and Deputy Chairman of the Department for Trade and Industry’s Offshore Supplies Office and a life member of the UK’s Foundation for Science and Technology.

Dr David Quarmby CBE

David Quarmby is Chairman of the Strategic Rail Authority and Chairman of SeaBritain 2005 - a nationwide celebration of Britain’s relationship with the sea; a Governor of the University of Greenwich and a Trustee of the St Paul’s Cathedral Foundation. Previous appointments held include Board Member of Transport for London, Chairman of the Docklands Light Railway, Ministerial Adviser leading the formation of Transport for London, Chairman of the British Tourist Authority, Director and Deputy Chairman of the New Millennium Experience Company and Board Director and joint Managing Director of Sainsbury’s.

Notes for Editors

The National Maritime Museum’s mission is to illustrate the importance of the sea, ships, time and the stars, and their relationship with people. Its responsibilities are safeguarding and enhancing its assets which are the collections, expertise in the collections and subject area and the buildings. The Museum seeks to spread the benefits of those assets by maximising access and interpretation for users, satisfying stakeholders and through effective organisation and sound financial management. Trustees of the National Maritime Museum are not remunerated.

Appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. Mr Moorhouse and Dr Quarmby have not carried out any political activity in the last five years.
