Privy Council appointment of Lord Philip

The Queen has been pleased to approve that the Honourable Lord Philip, a Scottish judge of the Inner House of the Court of Session be sworn of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

Notes for Editors

The proposal to appoint Scottish judges of the Inner House of the Court of Session to the Privy Council is in accordance with the established procedure in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by which judges automatically become Privy Counsellors when appointed Lord Justices of the Court of Appeal.

Alexander Morrison Philip

Born 1942 and educated at St Andrews University and Glasgow University. 

A Senator of the College of Justice in Scotland since 1996.  Advocate, 1973; Advocate-Depute, 1982-85; QC (Scotland), 1984; Chairman: Medical Appeal Tribunals, 1988-92 and Scottish Land Court, 1993-96; President, Lands Tribunal for Scotland, 1993-96.
