The Prime Minister has re-appointed Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Squire and Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman to the Board of the Imperial War Museum for a further four years from 19 December and 14 December 2005.
Biographical Notes
Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Squire was Chief of the Air Staff (2000 to 2003). Sir Peter was commissioned into the RAF in 1966, and held a series of flying and staff posts, of increasing seniority, both in the UK and Europe. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1982. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Commonwealth Wargraves Commission, having been appointed a Commissioner in 2003
Sir Peter has not been involved in any political activity in the past five years.
Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman has been Professor of War Studies at King’s College London, since 1982, and Vice-Principal (Research) since 2003. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and the author of numerous books on strategy, defence and related subjects.

Notes to Editors
The Imperial War Museum was founded in 1917 to "record the story of the Great War" and was set up under the Imperial War Museum Acts of 1920 and 1925. Its remit was later extended to cover the Second World War and further expanded to all military operations involving British or Commonwealth forces since August 1914. Trustees of the Imperial War Museum are not remunerated.
