The Prime Minister commented on:

the NHS

Mr Blair began by giving a presentation on the challenges and opportunities facing the NHS.

Mr Blair said:

"No-one is pretending that the NHS is without real challenges and problems. Of course it is, as every healthcare system in the world is. Yes, there are problems, but there have been major, fundamental and lasting improvements in patient care over these past few years."

About the monthly press conferences

Once a month the PM answers questions from local, national and international journalists inside a state room of 10 Downing Street. The session usually lasts an hour and Mr Blair has no prior notification of the questions. He is the first Prime Minister to hold such regular sessions.
