Re-appointment of Mike Emmerich to the National Heritage Memorial Fund

The Prime Minister has re-appointed Mike Emmerich Esq as a Trustee of the National Heritage Memorial Fund. His term of appointment will run from 29 July 2006 to 28 July 2009.

Biographical notes

Mike Emmerich is the newly-appointed Chief Executive of Manchester Enterprises, the economic development agency for Greater Manchester and former Director of the Institute for Political and Economic Governance, at the University of Manchester. Before this, he pursued a career in the political and economic strategy sectors, at the Centre for Local Economic Strategies where he served as Principal Consultant and then Deputy Director from 1991 to 1996. In 1997, he became a Policy Adviser with HM Treasury before becoming Senior Policy Adviser in the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit.

Mike Emmerich stood as Labour Party candidate in local elections in 2004. He no longer undertakes in any political activity.

Notes for Editors

The National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) was set up as a memorial to those who gave their lives for the United Kingdom. The Fund is a resource of last resort which makes grants to acquire, maintain and preserve heritage of outstanding national importance and interest, which is either at risk, or memorial in character.

NHMF Trustees administer the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) one of the National Lottery ‘good causes’. The Heritage Lottery Fund’s aims are to i) encourage more people to be involved in and make decisions about their heritage, ii) conserve and enhance the UK’s diverse heritage, iii) ensure that everyone can learn about and access their heritage, and iv) achieve a more equitable distribution of grants across the UK. NHMF Trustees receive £5,830 per annum in remuneration.

This re-appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice.
