Deanery of Rochester

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon Adrian Newman, BSc, DipHE, MPhil, Rector of Birmingham St Martin with Bordesley St Andrew, to the Deanery of Rochester in succession to the Very Reverend Edward Frank Shotter,BA, on his resignation.
Notes for Editors
Canon Adrian Newman (aged 45) studied at Bristol University and trained for the ministry Trinity College Bristol. He served his first Curacy at Forest Gate St Mark, in the diocese of Chelmsford. From 1989 to 1996 he was Vicar of Hillsborough and Wadsley Bridge in Sheffield Diocese. From 1994 to 1996 he was Rural Dean of Hallam. Since 1996 he has been Rector of St Martin, Birmingham. He has been an Honorary Canon of Birmingham Cathedral since 2001.
He is married with three young sons.
Canon Newman's interests include sport, and the music of Bruce Springsteen and U2.
